Ok. I've never done any web programming with anything other than Ruby on Rails1, and I have to say that this shit seems like magic to me. I can only imagine what it feels like to people who've been through the 12-step PHP or JSP recovery program. I mean... Jesus. Those poor kids.
Even the Javascript2 is incredibly easy. See those crazy footnotes in the sidebar over there? I put them there myself, with Javascript. If you look at the source for this page, you'll see that the footnotes are siting happily at the end of the post. Oh my! But using the Javascript DOM manipulation functions3 I was able to move them so that they float happily aside the paragraphs mentioning them. You mean people programmed in Javascript before Prototype4? Again: those poor kids.
But I'm rockin' it hardcore with this Web stuff. Who knows: maybe there'll be a career in it some day5?
1 I don't think my brief attempt with raw Perl CGI during undergrad counts.
2 Yes, I mean ECMAScript.
3 Ok: those are a bit painful.
4 Or the Javascript framework of your choice.
5 I jest, of course.
